Is that the Pearl tower?

So this time last year we traveled to Thailand with me on crutches… this year it’s middle man’s turn. I really hope this isn’t going to become an Easter tradition 🫣.

My fitness coach (@kara.wutzke) is always encouraging me to look at the positives… so … the positives of crutches when traveling is line jumping! Because of middle man we got taken to the front of many lines, making the process much easier for him and by proxy the rest of us.

Why Sri Lanka? Well China and Sri Lanka now offer visa free travel which for us means direct flights from Shanghai! So when looking for an Easter holiday we decided on 1 longer flight instead of a layover for the same price.

We flew China Eastern. Although it did feel like a long flight it was all smooth enough and I was very pleased with the healthier food having pre ordered the veggie option.

This time last year was a low point, stressed, being made redundant, fighting some internal struggles and being on crutches didn’t help.

But with support from so many people I have since been working hard on my own wellness, physically and mentally. There are still demons to fight but overall I feel great, but one side effect of this self care did making packing problematic. 😂😂

Enough about me… Our first glimpse of Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 was as the sunset during our landing. Mountain peaks poking out above the clouds gave way to dark blue seas boarding the dusk lit shorelines.

Although the sounds of crashing waves have been calling me for months, unfortunately I have to wait to venture to the ocean… as our main priority on landing was to get the boys fed and in bed.

The boys do travel well but we all a little grumpy and hungry by the time our “be there in 4 mins” airport pick up arrived. It appears time in Sri Lanka time is no the same as China time.

Given the hunger state of the family, I ordered ahead some food for our arrival at the hostel. Glad I did as they said no problem it will be around 30mins which actually was more like 1hour. But once fed, on very yummy sandwiches, we started to relax into the chilled out vibe Sri Lanka was emitting. Starting with a late pick up for our trip to Galle tomorrow.

Waiting for dinner with Sri Lanka version of the Pearl tower in the back ground.
