Are you Kava?

The day started earlier than anticipated, thanks jet lag, but seeing the orange skys over the trees from our bedroom window made up for it. Thankfully the sound of the waves soon lulled me back to sleep.

The morning was slow and chilled. The waves still strong but as the tide went out we could explore the beach. And wow what a beach…

And completely empty except a few local dogs!

Although I could have said doing not a lot for hours the boys tummies again forced us into action. Chamath (our host) organised a tut tuk to his friend Kava’s restaurant on a beach where swimming was safer.

Coconut palm bay was the destination and usually is a very calm bay where you can swim with turtles… however today it certainly wasn’t calm…but it was calmer than the waters outside our beach hut. And again an absolutely stunning location! The only issue was finding Kava as nothing really looked like a restaurant. Luckily the first person we asked knew exactly who Kava was.

Our “restaurant” was really a hut on stilts with one table and a few chairs. I still don’t actually know where the kitchen was or where the food came from. But the menu had grilled fish, grilled calamari and rice. And a surprisingly large choice of cocktails. It seemed only right to partake in one of each dish and a few different cocktails 😂😂

Although the waves were massive there are substantial rocks blocking the way meaning the boys could play in rock pools that were constantly refreshed by explosions of wave tumbling and bubbling over the rocks.

Shout out goes to Middle man who dealt with his limited mobility very well, you could see the determination in his face to try and make the most of the situation.

Such a brave man!

For our evening meal we decided to give Middle man a well deserved rest and order in food. Our host organised for a tut tuk to come pick up our money and order, go collected the food and bring it back. Obviously takeout is not a popular option, the supplier had used many creative ways to pack the food. From wrapping salad in plastic bags, to grilled prawns in cardboard boxes and Husband soup was in a washed out seasoning jar. Brilliant! The food was simple but tasty!

Belly’s full and feeling content the end of the day finished perfectly watching the stars and fireflies and listening to the waves. So far Sri Lanka is spoiling us.
