Twit-ta-woo

Christmas holidays wouldn’t be the same without a bit of sledging… But in the middle of the Namibian desert its on sand!

Rather naively, I was surprised that there wasn’t any issues with the boys tobogganing down the massive sand dune known as Dune 7 … I’m pretty sure back in the UK there would have been some health and safety issue or at least a risk assessment. We didn’t even have to climb the Dune by foot as our guide zoomed us up on a quad bike!

At the top we had the safety talk… “To turn put one foot in sand, To stop both feet”, “oh and bend up the board otherwise you’ll get a face full of sand”!

Husband and Lego Boy went first! Lego boy needed a bit of convincing to climb on to daddy’s back… Our guide gave a big push and soon they were shooting down the Dune and he squealed with delight!

Video of Husband and Lego Boy practically running me and Middle Man over  can be found here!

By this point Middle was hoping around with anticipation!  I had barely laid down when he jumped on my back! All the way down he twit-ta-wooed happily (his new found excited noise).

(Baby blue had lots of cuddles with the with guide whilst we went up and down)

It was a exhilarating morning, taking it in turns to speed down a very steep dune on a waxed up piece of plywood. Then shooting back up on a quad bike! For me the quad bike was probably the best bit!

I was the only one to accidentally let the front of the board dig in the sand. The guide was right, I got a face full. By the time we had finished though all of us had sand everywhere but we were all smiling from ear to ear.

Obligatory souvenir tops bought, we left Dune 7 happy after a top morning, one that we will all remember!

  1. That’s funny – we were in Namibia and climbed Dune 7 last December! We didn’t do a toboganning tour though but still really enjoyed running up and down. Or at least panting up and running down! I love Namibia – what a different country to anywhere else I have ever been.
