I can see grass and water and trees!

Into Namibia we drive on nice tarmacked roads with speed signs and building with windows and doors. The view was very different to what we had just left in Zambia. We pulled in at a shopping complex (not seen one of those in a while) to buy some food, drinks and see if we could get the allusive car part. Success with the food and drinks but again failed with the car part, apparently “You have to order them from Toyota”!

We were keen to reach out campsite which was about 4 hours drive so pushed on. The boys were worn out after the crossing and fell to sleep 10 mins into Ice Age 3. The drive through the caprevi was stunning, the views (and a whole packed of chocolate busiciuts) improved my mood as we put the border crossing further behind us.

Negepi was an awesome campsite! This time we were camped right on the banks of the Okovango river. However the toilet had the best view. The showers looked like they had come straight out of a herbal essence shampoo advert. Unfortunately that afternoon my phone screen smashed adding bit more frustration and making me feel far away from home. That night we went to sleep listening to the sounds of hippos snorting anticipating the safari we had booked on for the next day.

Number one on Lego Boys list was an elephant, I  must admit I was keen to see one also. Our last experience with elephants was in India 2 years ago and is one of my favorite family holiday memories. On that trip Middle Man was the baby of the family at 20 months and fell to sleep in my arms whilst riding through the jungle on the back of an elephant.

The safari did not disappoint. We saw 7 elephants :),  a lot of different antelope, crocodile, hippos and bird life. We stopped by a gaint Boaab tree for a drink, it’s trunk a great deal wider than my 3 boys sitting together and made an impressive sight.

On the way back the boys took it in turns to use the binoculars. At one view point over the river you could see crocodiles, zebra, warthog and hippos, it was Middle Mans turn with the binoculars. He excitedly described what he could see… “I can see grass and water and trees”!

The afternoon went by exploring the grounds with the boys and playing hide and seek. We even dipped our toes in the crocodile and hippo viewing cage.

We decided to eat at the restaurant that night and enjoyed a lovely meal of game meat and veg whilst watching the river  slowly float by in the moon light.

Tomorrows plan to was to find a Toyota garage on the way to Grootfontein.
