Can we climb that one

Our accommodation simple and a bit shabby but still none of us were ready to get up before 8:30. After the amazing but hectic day yesterday I was more to an happy for a slow start, on the agenda today was not alot till 2… then off to the Nazca lines before an overnight bus trip to Arequipa.

Breakfast was again a simple affair of scrambled eggs but this time with a warm half decent and very much appreciated coffee! During breakfast we asked the boys what they wanted to do with the morning… of course first request was to go dune buggying again 🤦‍♀️…. Eventually at middle man’s request we agreed on climbing the biggest dune around the oasis.

Now we had no idea how long it would take and only had minimal water but figured if it got to much we could just slide back down to the town in a few minutes. At the bottom we all guessed how far up it was… guesses ranged from 500m to 5km (Boy Blue obviously still learning to judge distances 😂). It turns out it was just over 800m to the top but I feel like we took enough steps to cover boy blues 5km… walking up on sand is like 2 steps forward, one and a half sliding back.

After around 40mins we topped out… Now what I wasn’t expecting after yesterday’s adventures was how peaceful the dunes could be. The buggy’s don’t start till gone mid day and the view was absolutely sublime! If it wasn’t for the baking heat I could have sat up there on top of the world for hours.

With our skin starting to turn pink, the sand under foot heating up and our need for water kicking in we… ran/skidded back down the other side. Boy blue and middle man reaching the oasis edge in less than 10mins.

Enjoying the shade of the oasis trees and calming views of the water we quenched our thirst enough for me and middle man to do a quick 20min body weight workout on the waters edge.

With just a couple of hours left we headed to a restaurant for lunch and then even squeezed in a little time browsing the tourists shops. Magnet (number 4) brought we headed to our bus.

Now I have wanted to see the nazca lines since watching an episode of Blue Peter as a kid. No real reason why…. I just thought they sounded too crazy to be true. So as we arrived at the viewing platform I was probably the most excited out of all of us. And yes they are as surreal as I remember thinking they were on Blue Peter. Absolutely no real explanation as to why they are there or what they mean your imagination can run wild. For me they look like constellations of a lost galaxy, middle man thinks they were drawn for fun by boys playing around, whilst boy blue went with the alien theory.

Either way the were certainly a good talking point for our long long overnight bus to Arequipa.
