I caught a tiger fish Mummy

We survived our first night camping under African sky. I even managed to feed laid down which I never mastered with Lego Boy or Middle Man.

As we had what was left of our food for breakfast the site manager came over to hello. He apologized for not being here when we arrived and offered to take us on a boat trip. So at 8 o’clock cool-box loaded up with drinks from the bar we headed down past the Crocodile and Hippo warning signs to the water’s edge.

We had a very enjoyable morning floating around on the Zambezi River. The boys had a go at driving the boat (Middle Man seemed determined to hit a bank) and fishing.

Lego Boy was chuffed to bits when he caught a good size Tiger Fish but less chuffed when our guide tried to get him to hold the wriggling thing.

Too soon it was time to return to dry land and face the issue of limited food (except for a big tiger fish). But lunch was delicious, we bbq’d the fish and had tiger fish sandwiches 🙂 You can’t get much fresher fish than that.

We really didn’t want to but we had to go out in the car to get supplies for the evening and the border crossing we planned to do the next day. So one hour down the road we find Sheseke, our arrival in the town was announced by a massive invisible speed bump hit at speed.

There really wasn’t much (apart from speed bumps) there but after visiting a few of the shacks we managed to stock up on food, drink and mosquito repellent. The bank however had no cash so we were going to have to try and cross the border without money for the visas. We also failed to find the required car part in the small auto parts shop but were told we should be able to get it in Namibia.

I have never had a good experience crossing a land border in Africa and was not particularly looking forward to tomorrow. Given the complication of Baby Blue still not being officially on Husbands work permit (application has been submitted) and the lack of cash we were not expecting it to be a quick process.

That evening we relaxed around the fire and enjoyed what we hoped would be our last night in Zambia for a few weeks.

  1. Fascinating stuff! You are a couple of toughies – really having the touring experience at ground root level! I salute you! – and great early training for the boys.
Get cracking on the next one, want to see how the border crossing went!
Great photos on F.B too! xxxxx
